LiPo Battery Safety & Charging Policy

CRITICAL WARNING: LiPo Battery Safety & Charging Policy

Your safety is our number one priority. Lithium Polymer (LiPo) batteries are a powerful technology used in high-performance RC models. However, they are chemically volatile and carry a serious risk of fire, property damage, and personal injury if they are charged, stored, or handled improperly.

By purchasing a LiPo battery from MRC Plaza, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to abide by all the warnings and instructions outlined in this policy. Failure to do so will void any warranty and release MRC Plaza from all liability for any damages that may occur.

If you are not comfortable with any of these conditions, please do not use the battery.

The 4 Golden Rules of LiPo Safety - NON-NEGOTIABLE

  1. NEVER Leave Charging Unattended: This is the most critical rule. A battery failure can happen quickly and without warning. You must be physically present to monitor the entire charging process so you can react immediately to any problem. Do not charge overnight or when you are not home.
  2. ALWAYS Use a Proper LiPo Balance Charger: Only use a charger specifically designed for LiPo batteries that has a balance-charge function. Using the wrong charger (e.g., a NiMH or NiCd charger) is extremely dangerous and will likely cause a fire.
  3. ALWAYS Charge in a Fire-Safe Location: Charge batteries inside a fire-resistant container, such as a metal box or an official LiPo-safe charging bag. Place this container on a non-flammable surface like a concrete floor, away from any combustible materials (wood, paper, carpet, etc.).
  4. NEVER Charge a Damaged Battery: Before every charge, carefully inspect the battery for any signs of damage. This includes puffing (swelling), dents, punctures, torn wrapping, or damaged wires/connectors. If you observe ANY of these signs, DO NOT attempt to charge or use the battery. Safely discharge and dispose of it immediately.

Charging Procedures & Environment

  • Correct Charger Settings: Always confirm your charger is set to the correct LiPo chemistry, cell count (e.g., 2S, 3S, 4S), and charge rate (Amps). Charging at a rate higher than 1C is not recommended unless explicitly permitted by the battery manufacturer (1C for a 5000mAh battery is 5.0 Amps).
  • Use Balance Mode: Always use the balance charge mode on your charger. This ensures all cells within the battery pack are charged to an equal voltage, which is crucial for the battery's health and safety.
  • Safe Environment: Charge in a well-ventilated, open area. Never charge inside your house, vehicle, or any structure where a fire could easily spread.
  • Monitor During Charging: Periodically check the battery during the charge cycle. If it starts to get unusually warm to the touch, begins to swell (puff), or emits smoke, immediately and safely disconnect the battery and move it to a safe place away from flammable materials.

Handling, Storage & Disposal

  • After a Crash: If your RC vehicle has been in a crash, remove the battery and place it in a safe, open area for at least 30 minutes to observe it for any signs of damage or swelling.
  • Storage: For storage longer than a few days, batteries should be discharged to a "storage voltage" (typically 3.80V-3.85V per cell) using your LiPo charger's storage function. Store them in a fireproof bag or container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and flammable materials.
  • Disposal: LiPo batteries must NOT be disposed of in your regular household rubbish as they are a fire hazard. They must be fully discharged before disposal. Once fully discharged (0 volts), tape the terminals and take them to a designated battery recycling facility or e-waste collection point. Check with your local council for collection sites.
